Welcome to the Brotherhood of the Knights of the Vine, a non-profit organization created to promote American wines and wine producing regions; to introduce and recognize quality wines from around the world; and to rekindle the respect of wine and wine culture for mankind and country.

Our Brotherhood was established in 1964 by Norman E. Gates who followed the philosophy of wine brotherhoods by honoring wine, country and mankind. He created our organization to unite those people who produce wine, those who sell it, and those who appreciate it. Mr. Gates, who is now deceased, retired in 1995 at the age of 76. Michael D. Doukas was elected Grand Commander on September 14, 1995, and continues in that position today.

Events include a formal induction ceremony as well as more casual luncheons, dinners, wine tastings and seminars. We have many chapters throughout the country. For those persons who are interested in joining our Brotherhood, please visit our membership page.

The Brotherhood of the Knights of the Vine is a founding member of the F.I.C.B, The International Federation of Wine Brotherhoods, with roots dating back to the 13th century. Its mission is to promote the vines and wines of America, through its members, including wine education, wine tastings and an annual Enthronement Ceremony and Dinner where new members are "knighted" as Knights, Gentle Ladies, Master Knights and Ladies and Supreme Knights and Ladies. Knights of the Vine has chapters located throughout the United States, Europe, Russia and Finland.

Myskhako: war, peace and wine

It feels weird, to the point of claustrophobia, to stand in the tiny underground cell. The whole space measures no more than six square metres. The walls are lined with wood and the simple furniture consists of a wooden table and bench, with a metal stove in the corner..... (read more)

Genuine Russian wine

That November morning was unkind. The milky white fog that had descended upon the river Don was thick and impenetrable. We were promised a magnificent view from the high right bank, but could hardly see beyond arm’s reach..... (read more)
